Concussion to sideline Roethlisberger

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss Sunday night's game at Baltimore because of a concussion, the NFL team confirmed Saturday.

After several US media reports said Roethlisberger was unlikely to start the Steelers confirmed that second-year pro Dennis Dixon will start under center after both Roethlisberger and backup Charlie Batch were injured in last Sunday's loss at Kansas City.

Dixon has thrown one pass in his NFL career.

Roethlisberger took a blow to the head in overtime, and then Batch broke a bone in his left wrist after coming on in his place.

The Steelers have added quarterback Tyler Palko to the active roster from their practice squad. Against the Ravens, Palko will serve as the backup, and Roethlisberger will still be in uniform as the number three quarterback.

Roethlisberger practiced all week despite sustaining his fourth concussion in four years.

He said on Thursday he had been cleared to play, but has experienced headaches since returning to practice and elected not to play after discussion with the team's medical staff.

The Steelers have lost their last two games and trail Cincinnati by a game in the AFC North division.
