Iraqi minister hurt, two Britons killed in Jordan accident

Iraqi Minister of Science and Technology Raed Fahmi was injured on Friday in a road accident in Jordan which killed six people including two British women, police said.

Police spokesman Mohammed Khatib said 28 other people were injured in the accident on the Dead Sea road to Amman in the Jordan Valley after their tourist bus crashed early on Friday.

Khatib said the group was taking part in a UN-run training programme for Iraqi students, and that they had gone to a Dead Sea hotel for dinner. Four Iraqis were also killed.

"The dead Britons were two women who worked for the programme, organised by the United Nations Development Programme. Four of the injured, including the Iraqi minister, are still in hospital," another police source told AFP.

Khatib gave no details about the condition of Fahmi, who was being treated at the King Hussein Medical Centre in Amman.
